This book took me SO LONG to get through。 Not because it was bad at all。 I enjoyed it, it just maybe wasn’t the right time for me to be reading it。 However once I got to about 70% I was really invested and the story picked up for me。 I loved the ending and thought the last 30ish% was so beautiful, it made me like the book as a whole so much more。

During the first half of this audiobook, I for sure thought it would be my book of the year。 It really sucked me in, so much so that I was grateful for having very long drives to work on which I could listen。 I don’t think it’s for everyone, but I loved the schmaltz and totally bought into it。 However。 During the second half of the book, the schmaltz level was turned up to five zillion。 I could dine out on cheese until the end of time (😏 very meta of me), but even I could have done with every so During the first half of this audiobook, I for sure thought it would be my book of the year。 It really sucked me in, so much so that I was grateful for having very long drives to work on which I could listen。 I don’t think it’s for everyone, but I loved the schmaltz and totally bought into it。 However。 During the second half of the book, the schmaltz level was turned up to five zillion。 I could dine out on cheese until the end of time (😏 very meta of me), but even I could have done with every so slightly less。 I cringed out of my skin in parts。 But on the whole, niggles aside, I loved it and thoroughly enjoyed myself for all 17+ hours of this lovely ride。 。。。more
Alicia,
Wow wow wow, easily my favorite book of the year。 The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue was an epic story of love and depression and hope and grief and life。 Addie was amazing, such a clever woman with ambitions。 Henry was kind and Luc was devious and I loved them all :-) Schwab’s writing style is so easy and smart! I cannot recommend this one enough。 Also I’m trash, but I definitely was shipping Luc lol。Trigger warnings: death, drug use, reference to suicide

Jackie,
This was a really creative storyline。 I really enjoyed the premise of the book and the writing in general。 My only issue with it is that toward the middle of the novel the pace really slowed down and it became a bit repetitive。 Other than that, it was a fun read and I enjoyed it。
Varija Nijor,
I'm halfway through and ready to stop reading。 The descriptions and writing is lovely, but it has to be one of the slowest books I've ever read through。 I can't imagine going through the rest of it at the same plot pace。 I'm halfway through and ready to stop reading。 The descriptions and writing is lovely, but it has to be one of the slowest books I've ever read through。 I can't imagine going through the rest of it at the same plot pace。 。。。more

Meh。 1。5 stars for having an interesting plot。so to be honest, I didn't actually finish it。 I read till ch 15 before realizing just how bored I was with Addie's mundane life and the prose, while beautiful, just didn't fit well for a fiction novel。 Though that's highly contested by many who love the book。 It's either you love it or you hate it。 The first half is supposed to be very slow, and although i've heard the second half does get more exciting, the pacing definitely doesn't change。 How do I Meh。 1。5 stars for having an interesting plot。so to be honest, I didn't actually finish it。 I read till ch 15 before realizing just how bored I was with Addie's mundane life and the prose, while beautiful, just didn't fit well for a fiction novel。 Though that's highly contested by many who love the book。 It's either you love it or you hate it。 The first half is supposed to be very slow, and although i've heard the second half does get more exciting, the pacing definitely doesn't change。 How do I know? I skipped to the last 15% of the book because I was dying of boredom (along with reading a couple short chapters in between)。 The plot in the book is fairly repetitive。 Addie loses people as they forget it。 She tries again, same thing, and again-same thing, etc。 The one interesting character of this story is definitely the Devil (aka, the Shadow, or more fondly, Luc。) The Devil who learns to desire Addie, but Luc truly love anything more than himself? By the end, I honestly still wasn't sure。 The ending is bittersweet and heartbreaking if not just downright sad。 I'm not sure what's worth, the ending Victoria Schwab wrote for Addie or just the hated "everyone dies at the end。" Perhaps if it were shorter I would have truly been able to love it。 at least 100 pages could have been cut。 I'll leave you with this final opinion: It's a beautiful, vengeful, and bittersweet plot that ultimately failed in the execution。 。。。more

Just finished reading this book and honestly I feel my soul shattered。 I had never read anything from V。E Schwab and literally bought this book because it catches my attention at the bookstore, and I'm so glad it did!

The book was pretty good overall。 It took me a while to get through it because Addie is never in any danger per see cause she can´t die。 It is not very captivating。 Though the ending with Henery ways amazing and totally worth the 400 ish page wait。 4/5 stars。

Addie trades her soul for the life she wants。 Or thinks she wants。 Too late, Addie。 Okay that’s this year’s buzz book done。 This story starts way stronger than it finishes。

3。5 Stars。This is, objectively, a great book。 The premise is unique and fantastic and the kind of stuff that the reader can ponder about weeks after finishing the book。 It is written in the most beautiful, artsy manner, has great characters and is well rounded。 But for me personally, the only reason I did end up enjoying the book was the ending。After the first few chapters I was ready to stop reading the book。 I did not liek it。 The writing was good and the premise interesting, but none of it re 3。5 Stars。This is, objectively, a great book。 The premise is unique and fantastic and the kind of stuff that the reader can ponder about weeks after finishing the book。 It is written in the most beautiful, artsy manner, has great characters and is well rounded。 But for me personally, the only reason I did end up enjoying the book was the ending。After the first few chapters I was ready to stop reading the book。 I did not liek it。 The writing was good and the premise interesting, but none of it resonated with me。 Addie, the protagonist, a frensh girl born in the 18th century makes a deal with Luc, who is basically the devil, to become immortal until she doesn't want to live anymore。 The catch: Nobody can ever remember her。 She cannot leave her mark on the world。 She is a ghost。But what she also was, to me, was obnoxious。 In the beginning, she was a Not-like-other-girls-girl, who thought she was so much better than everyone because she had dreams。 Luckily, she kind of got over that。 But she did not get less annoying as an immortal。 She was still a bit obnoxious, just in a more sophisticated and artsy way。 I mean, I understand why she was that way, because it was the only kind of person who could live like that。 By devoting her passions to art and thoughts and all that pretentious stuff she could get through not being remembered, and of course you get a bit arrogant when you are older than everybody。 But that was not the only thing I didn't like about her。 This girl is immortal, right, she can go anywhere, do anything - and then she spends her entire life in freaking Europe and the US? For three hundred years?? She said she wanted to live, to see the world。 And yet she has only seen two continents? I was just so annoyed at her。I guess, Addie just really likes Paris and New York。 And I get it。 Those are great cities。 But when I was already bored by spending almost the entire book in two cities only, I cannot believe she wouldn't be。 The entire book just read a bit like a love letter to New York, but the very white, hipster, artsy part of New York。 And it just got repetetive。 Later in the story, Addie meets somebody, Henry, who finally can remember her。 I really enjoyed the addition of that character, who was loveable, a bit too relatable and even helped the character of Addie to grow a little bit on me。 And even though I did see the plot twist about him coming, it was great。 Another thing I really enjoyed where the little bits of art at the beginning of each part。 I thought that was a very nice touch and just added so much to the athmosphere and story。Now, even though I must have sounded very harsh in the beginning, I liked the book more and more the farther I got。 Towards the end, it would have been a solid three stars, not great, but enjoyable。 But then came the ending。 And endings are for me the most imortant part。 The part that most often disappoints, I hate cheesy endings, but I also don't want to finish on a sad note。 This ending was perfect。 It was the best way to wrap up everything, but leave enough to the imagination, the perfect micture of bitter and sweet, that made me smile with a tear in my eye。 That ending earned the book a 3。5 stars, even though there was much I did not like。 。。。more

The is a truly magical book。 It's impossible not to have a visceral reaction to this heroine, to suffer and triumph along with her。 It was romantic, affirming, fun, deep, and highly satisfying。 There were times I was a bit frustrated with the conceit and I figured out the twists long before they were revealed, but that doesn't change what a beautiful, unique story this was。 Now I want to pick up her other works。 The is a truly magical book。 It's impossible not to have a visceral reaction to this heroine, to suffer and triumph along with her。 It was romantic, affirming, fun, deep, and highly satisfying。 There were times I was a bit frustrated with the conceit and I figured out the twists long before they were revealed, but that doesn't change what a beautiful, unique story this was。 Now I want to pick up her other works。 。。。more

Let me start by saying, DONT READ THIS IF YOU ARE IN A READING SLUMPit has taken me a month and 9 days to read it, this is one slow bitch, Maybe because I wanted to love it, because my expectations were litteraly sky high of because I had to force myself to read it sometimes, it wasnt a five star,And I reccomend it, if you can engage in a stroy when nothing is really going onAlso, what an expectional endingI promise, after the Henry part of the story, it gets amazing4。2
